2000, June 28.
Chesapeake Bay Agreement, (Chesapeake 2000), established regional standards for Bay restoration, signed by Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, District of Columbia, Chesapeake Bay Commission, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

2001. 29th Infantry Division Light of Maryland National Guard deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Stabilization Force 10.

2002, Sept. 10. Electronic voting machines first used during primary elections in four counties (Allegany, Dorchester, Montgomery, Prince George's).

2003, Jan. 15-2007, Jan. 15. Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. (Republican), governor.

2004, March 2. Electronic voting system used during primary elections at polling places and for absentee ballots in all counties and Baltimore City.

2004, May-2006, March. Eleven soldiers of 372nd Military Police Company, a reserve unit out of Cresaptown (Allegany County), convicted of mistreatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib Prison, Baghdad, Iraq.

2006, July. New Woodrow Wilson Bridge opened across Potomac.

2007, Jan. 4. Baltimore native, Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi sworn in as first woman Speaker of U.S. House of Representatives.

2007, Jan. 17- Martin J. O'Malley (Democrat), governor.

2007, May 8. Living wage law enacted, first such state law in nation (Chapter 284, Acts of 2007). Statute took effect Oct. 1, 2007.

2007, Nov 27. Middle East Peace Conference held at U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis.

2008, June 17-18. U.S. - China Strategic Economic Dialogue IV held at U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis.

2008, Nov. 4. To fund education, voters ratified constitutional amendment authorizing video lottery terminals [slot machines] in Allegany, Anne Arundel, Cecil and Worcester counties, and Baltimore City (Chapter 5, Acts of 2007 Special Session).

2008, Nov. 4. Voters ratified constitutional amendment authorizing early voting (Chapter 513, Acts of 2007).

2009, May 12. President Obama's Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration Executive Order establishes federal role for clean up of Chesapeake Bay.

2010, Sept. 14. Early voting used during Maryland primary elections.

2010, Sept. 27. The first video lottery facility in Maryland opened at Perryville in Cecil County.

2011, Feb. 23. First segment of Intercounty Connector (MD Route 200), the State's first all-electronic toll road, opened for Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

2011, March 17. Messenger, an interplanetary spacecraft built at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, became the first satellite to orbit the planet Mercury.
