In January 2009, the House Speaker formed the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System Work Group. The Work Group continues to review the structure and funding of the Statewide emergency medical services system, including the role of State and local agencies. It also examines the mission and structure of the Maryland State Police Aviation Command; the role and function of commercial carriers; and the helicopter procurement process.

The Work Group submitted its report and recommendations in March 2009 to the House Appropriations Committee, the Environmental Matters Committee, and the Health and Government Operations Committee.
