MARYLAND AT A GLANCE

BEACHES

Maryland beaches are found fronting the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and along the Chesapeake Bay in the middle of the state. Beaches also may be located along lakes and rivers further inland. While the most reknown of Maryland's beaches is located in Ocean City, many may be found scattered on the Eastern Shore.

The Maryland Park Service of the Department of Natural Resources maintains 15 park beaches in ten counties. All State park beaches, and many county and municipal beaches require entrance fees for access. Most beaches offer extra equipment and facility rentals as well.

*(no swimming allowed)
**(access requires permit)
